OBJECTIVE
To review plans and inspect various phases of building construction or modification to assure compliance with a variety of regulatory codes. Manages code violation associated with nuisance, assist or manage adoption of update to various International Building Codes. No supervisory responsibility.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
- Reporls to: Building Official and/or Director of Public Works
- Directs: This is a non-supervisory position.
- Other: Has contact with other city employees, vendors, the general public, other political subdivisions, and a wide variety of relevant professional associations.
EXAMPLES OF WORK
Essential Duties*
- Promotes positive public relations;
- Reviews and approves building construction plans;
- Performs inspections for compliance and issues stop work orders when necessary;
- Coordinates with Building Official or Director of Public Works or Construction Inspector with respect to environmental and land use codes;
- Performs Fire Safety code Inspections and plans review;
- Acts as City Compliance Officer for American with Disabilities Act compliance; Investigates citizen concerns and complaints on various nuisance or health violations; Maintains a filing system for complaints, permits, plans and inspections;
- Performs other related duties as needed;

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE. SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
- Building Code Inspections: codes, practices and methods.
- Construction Technologies: considerable experience and knowledge in construction technologies and residential, commercial and fire code compliance.
- Office Software: current word processing, presentation, spreadsheet, and database programs used by the City.
- Utilities Construction: engineering and other materials, methods, laws, and tools to safely and accurately complete utilities construction projects.
- English Language: the structure and content of the English language, including the meaning of words and grammar. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
- Building Plans: techniques and principles involved in the production and use of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
- Maintenance Principles: processes involved in upkeep of property and equipment to the optimum state of cleanliness, repair, and efficiency.

EXAMPLES OF WORK
Essential Duties*
- Responds to emergency calls and routine complaints and disturbances and takes necessary action, including police protection, fire suppression, and emergency medical treatment.
- Directs traffic, escorts traffic, operates traffic radar monitoring equipment, and issues traffic citations;
- Investigates crime, traffic, fire, and emergency medical incidents;
- Questions witnesses, serves warrants, and takes statements and complaints;
- Keeps records of activities, prepares, submits and files reports related to criminal acts, fire prevention and suppression activities and medical related calls for service;;
