Hello, I’m City Manager Steven Alexander with a quick update from the August 11 City Council meeting—and an important request for your help conserving water as we experience peak demand during these very hot, dry days.

At the meeting, City Council held the second of two public hearings on the proposed Fiscal Year 2026–2027 Budget and Municipal Services Plan, ahead of discussion and consideration of the budget for approval.

The proposed budget is based on a property tax rate of $0.281436 per $100 of taxable assessed valuation. It prioritizes continued implementation of the City’s Water Plan, public safety, infrastructure and capital improvement projects, and the quality of life our residents value.

You’ll be hearing more from the City in the coming weeks about the budget and what it means for you and our community. You can also find the proposed budget, along with last night’s presentation, on the City’s website.

Now, speaking of water, demand is at its highest, and we are approaching the threshold of 6.3 million gallons per day that could trigger Stage 2 of the City’s Conservation Plan.

If Stage 2 is triggered, watering with an irrigation system would be limited to once per week.

The City is making tremendous progress on our Water Plan. We’re moving forward with plans for up to six new potable water wells, along with a 3-million-gallon ground storage tank and a 1.5-million-gallon elevated storage tank.

When these projects are complete, Heath will have significantly expanded both its water supply and storage capacity, positioning our community to meet future demand while preserving the exceptional quality of life our residents expect.

But even with these important investments, water conservation will always be important—not just here in Heath, but across Texas and throughout the country.

So, over the next couple of weeks, as the forecast remains hot and dry, please continue following the City’s current conservation irrigation schedule, watering only on your designated days and saving water wherever possible.
