POSITIVE WEST NILE VIRUS RESULT CONFIRMED
The City received a positive result for West Nile virus in a trap located in a creek between Bison Meadow Lane and Horizon Road, northwest of FM-549. Mosquito spraying is being organized and will occur as soon as possible.
An update of the timing and a map of the area to be sprayed will be posted once confirmed.
The City of Heath encourages residents to take steps to protect against mosquito-borne illnesses during the hot summer months:
- Use Insect Repellent – Apply an approved insect repellent containing DEET, picaridin, or lemon eucalyptus oil every time you go outside.
- Drain Standing Water – Regularly remove water from empty cans, tires, buckets, clogged rain gutters, and saucers under potted plants on your property. Mosquitoes breed in stagnant water.
- Wear Protective Clothing – Wear long sleeves and pants during dawn and dusk when mosquitoes are most active.
