City Welcomes Zack King, AICP, as Director of Planning & Development
The City of Heath welcomes Zack King, AICP, as Director of Planning and Development. Bringing more than seven years of progressive municipal planning experience, King joins the organization with a strong background in strategic development, customer service and process improvement.
In his role with the City, King will provide executive leadership and strategic oversight for the City’s Planning and Development Department, including Planning, Building Inspections, Code Enforcement and Environmental Health. He will oversee zoning, platting, site development, comprehensive planning, budgeting, policy implementation, and departmental operations while coordinating technical and administrative functions.
Prior to joining the City of Heath, King served with the City of Waxahachie, where he steadily advanced through the organization from GIS Technician to Planner, Senior Planner, and ultimately Planning Manager. Throughout his tenure, he successfully led complex development reviews, ordinance updates, impact fee initiatives, and major planning projects, including collaboration on the City’s 2023 Comprehensive Plan.

King holds a Master of Public Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Geography from the University of North Texas and earned his AICP Certification through the American Institute of Certified Planners in 2023.
Outside of work, King and his wife are fans of motorsports and enjoy hiking with their dog.
