Community Kicks Off Easter at Fun & Fit in the Park, featuring Heart of Heath 5k and 1-Mile Family Run

The Heath community and guests celebrated Easter Saturday on April 15 at Fun & Fit in the Park, featuring the annual Heart of Heath 5k and One-Mile Family Run.

A record-breaking 411 participants entered the two runs, with Dwain McDuffie of West Monroe, LA, taking 1st Place in the 5k with a 16:26 time. Second Place in the 5k was Vesko Rajovic of Plano at 16:44; and 3rd Place was Jordan Newcomer of Rockwall, with a 17:14 time. Rajovic was also the Overall Male Masters 5k Winner.

The Overall Female 5k winner was Alexis Williamson of Rockwall at 20:59; coming in 2nd place was Wendy Kreminski of Heath at 22:02; and 3rd place was Kathy Spletter of Rockwall at 22:22.  Kremenski was also the Overall Female Masters 5k winner.

The most exuberant winners of the day were the Top 3 Boys and Top 3 Girls in the 1-Mile Family Run. These up-and-comers were: Madeline Hernandez, 1st place girls; Isabella Ruffo, 2nd place; and Kylie Wingard, 3rd place. Nathan McCowen took 1st place among boys; Dyson Wicker, 2nd place; and Zachary Wingard, 3rd place.

Fun & Fit in the Park activities also included complimentary refreshments, giant games like Checkers and Chess, and an Easter craft in the Artstream Mobile Art Studio.

“The City of Heath appreciates the generous support of the sponsors and prize donors, and we thank the Special Events Board, volunteers and City staff for their hard work to present this signature holiday event for our community,” said Heath Mayor Brian Berry, noting that proceeds from the runs benefit Heath’s parks and trails.
