Welcome Preston Jones as Director of Public Works

The City of Heath welcomes Preston Jones to its leadership team as Director of Public Works.

Bringing more than 11 years of municipal public works experience, Jones joins the City with a strong background in water, wastewater and stormwater operations, regulatory compliance and team leadership.

Most recently, Jones served as Assistant Director of Public Works for the City of Princeton, Texas, where he helped oversee daily operations across multiple Public Works divisions and supported a team of 58 employees. He holds a Class A Water Operator License and a Class C Wastewater Treatment License from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).

“We are pleased to have a professional of Preston’s caliber join our team,” said City Manager Steven Alexander. “His expertise and experience are an ideal fit as we continue implementing our Water Plan to expand the City’s water supply and storage capabilities while also advancing other infrastructure projects.”

“Public Works is foundational to Heath’s future,” said Jones. “My focus is to strengthen our water and wastewater infrastructure, responsibly plan for growth and ensure that we are good stewards of our resources. Just as important, I want to invest in the people behind that infrastructure. By developing our team and building on their expertise, we can create a stronger, more innovative department prepared to lead Heath into its next chapter.”

In his new role, Jones will oversee Public Works operations, including the planning and execution of capital infrastructure and maintenance projects, and departmental budget preparation.

“I’m excited about the opportunity to help Heath build on the momentum of our success as a premier outdoor lifestyle community,” Jones said. “Public Works requires the ability to adapt, prioritize and find solutions, and I look forward to bringing that mindset to Heath as we continue moving the City forward.”

In addition to his professional licenses from TCEQ, Jones is a recipient of the Management Innovation Award from the Texas Chapter of the American Public Works Association.

Outside of work, Jones enjoys spending time with his family. With his children involved in sports, much of the family’s time is spent at games, cheering them on. When not at the ballfield, Jones enjoys fishing, playing catch with his children and riding the golf cart with his family down to the lake.

“For me, there’s nothing better than being outdoors and making memories with my family,” Jones said.
